Projects

In partnership with the City of Pontiac, Oakland County has begun the Pontiac Redevelopment Project. Major portions of this project include the Demolition of the Phoenix Center parking garage and the moving of over 600 County Employees into the downtown area.

Project Overview:

• Demolition: Phoenix Center and parking garage will be demolished, reopening Saginaw Street.
• Renovation: Former GM building at 31 E. Judson St. will be renovated into a new county satellite campus, bringing 700 county employees back to downtown Pontiac.
• Development: Creation of open spaces for commercial and residential growth, enhancing walkability.
• Construction: New parking structures will be built for workers, residents, and visitors.

Street Closures and Parking:

• Closures: Auburn/Orchard Lake Road closed to through traffic; Judson Street converted to one-way for visitor parking.
• Interim Parking: Available at a large surface lot across Auburn/Orchard Lake Road, with no charge to individuals; access moved to the south entrance of the 51111 Woodward Ave. building.

Timeline:

• April 11, 2025: Last day for parking in the Phoenix Center garage.
• April 12-13, 2025: Striping and signage for parking spaces on Judson Street.
• April 14, 2025: Interim parking arrangements begin.
• April 15, 2025: Demolition of the Phoenix Center starts, expected to take three weeks.

Impact:

• Noise and Dust: Expect loud noise, vibrations, and dust during demolition, with watering for dust mitigation.
